Hannibal IP LLC (“Hannibal”), an affiliate of Longhorn IP, announced today that it has entered into a patent license agreement with Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (“Samsung”). The agreement provides Samsung with a license to Hannibal’s portfolio of patents covering foundational 5G wireless communication technologies. All terms of the agreement are confidential.

“Hannibal’s patents have already been licensed to the majority of the global automotive industry through the Avanci Platform, underscoring their essentiality to the 5G standard,” said Khaled Fekih‑Romdhane, Manager of Hannibal. “We are pleased to reach this agreement with Samsung, one of the world’s leading technology innovators.”

On February 27, 2025, Hannibal filed a patent infringement complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas against Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. and Samsung Electronics America, Inc. (Case No. 4:25‑cv‑200). The asserted patents relate to advanced 5G wireless communication technologies incorporated into the 3GPP 5G Standard.

Hannibal previously acquired a portfolio of patents directed to key 5G technologies. These patents have been declared essential to relevant standard‑setting bodies and have been incorporated into the 3GPP 5G specifications, reflecting their technical significance and industry adoption.

Hannibal’s portfolio further strengthens the position of Longhorn IP’s managed 5G assets. In its 2025 global 5G patent landscape report ("Who is Leading the 5G Patent Race?"), LexisNexis highlighted Longhorn IP’s rapid rise in the rankings, noting that “Longhorn IP, having acquired 5G portfolios from FG Innovation and Shanghai Langbo, has improved its ranking from 83 to 38.”
