UNIFIED PATENTS CHALLENGE TO L2 PATENT DEFEATED AT USPTO

L2 Mobile Technologies, LLC (L2MT), a Longhorn IP subsidiary, rebuffs a Unified Patents LLC (Unified) challenge at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). L2MT recently received from the USPTO a notice of intent to issue a reexamination certificate indicating allowance of claims 1, 2, 5-7, and 10 of L2MT’s U.S. Pat. No. 8,321,740 (the `740 patent) challenged in a reexamination initiated by Unified. Unified’s ex parte reexamination request resulted in the USPTO’s issuing an Office action initially rejecting claims 1-10 of the `740 patent on three separate grounds, including both anticipation and obviousness theories. L2MT filed a response to the Office action leading directly to the USPTO’s decision to close the ex parte reexamination proceeding including the allowance of claims 1, 2, 5-7, and 10. L2MT is pleased that the USPTO has confirmed the strength of its patent portfolio through this process.
